Three’s a Felony
In a not-so-distant future 2030AD when progressive policies have gone wildly bureaucratic, the best way to access subsidized housing and universal partner benefits in California is to register as a “Triadic Domestic Unit.” You, your ex, and a monogamous Bulgarian immigrant named Vali all need a place to live—and you’re all sort of attracted to each other for different, very inconvenient reasons. So you fake a polyamorous triad. Your ex still pushes your buttons, hard. Vali doesn’t believe in non-monogamy but really likes kissing you (and your ex). And your new landlord is a suspicious, meddling progressive relic who’s a little too enthusiastic about your “beautiful queer journey.” The IRS has assigned a government compliance auditor who might actually be able to see into your soul—or at least your search history. Keeping up appearances means living together, sleeping together (sort of), and lying convincingly under surveillance. But as things heat up in the apartment and in your hearts, the question shifts from whether you can fake being in love to whether you already are.
