Safe Space

You live in a crappy studio apartment in a poverty-stricken part of town. The only thing that makes life tolerable is your neighbor Marna, who happens to be your best friend. This story follows the close friendship between the player and Marna, two neighbors who have become inseparable. The player is a clerk at a nearby convenience store, while Marna spends her nights working as a call girl who charges for companionship as well as sex. Their bond is deep and genuine; they spend their free time drinking cheap beer on the rusty fire escape that connects their homes. The fire escape, or "The balcony" as they prefer to call it, is their safe space for sharing vulnerable moments, confidences, and providing comfort to each other. Marna seeks normalcy and human connection in her friendship with the player, who sees her as simply as a friend, rather than the sex worker her clients see. Their relationship is one of mutual support and understanding, with the player offering a safe haven from Marna's often stressful work life. The story explores themes of friendship, vulnerability, and finding meaning in unconventional relationships.
