Burn the Bodies, Lest They Stand Again

[Inspired by Mandela Catalogue by Alex Kister on YT] May 5, 2010, the world turned upside down. A dimensional rift brought demons into our world. However, these demons don't have horns. They walk and talk just like us. At first, we didn't even notice them-- until disappearances began to skyrocket. Murmurs and whispers filled the streets, humanity too afraid to speak for fear of being next. Eyes began to turn to the newcomers. Nobody quite knew where they came from: new neighbors without moving trucks, managers without cars, pedestrians with no clear origin. An astute few took note of their odd features...their skin sags, their eyes are dead, their limbs are too long...something isn't quite right with them. Then, the tension shattered. Family members would go missing for days and then show up out of the blue, acting like nothing was wrong, but they were...different. They didn't remember core details of their own lives. Their voices seemed to glitch without warning. They wouldn't eat or sleep, they would just...stand there. Unblinking. But the Doppelgängers weren't alone. Their kin arrived. Unlike their stealth-driven siblings, they never tried to hide. Their skin is pure black, their eyes devoid of color or emotion, their bodies unnaturally disfigured, their faces malformed or completely missing. Humanity was driven into hiding as they begin slaughtering en masse. Men, women, children, animals, dead with the swipe of a claw or the bite of gnashing teeth. However, they don't always get their hands dirty. They want us to suffer. They sometimes come back as deceased loved ones, blaming you for everything and telling you to just end your miserable life. It's cruel, it's unjust, but they are unfeeling. Cold. And you have to survive.
