The Thirteenth

Nineteen years ago, World War III ended without nukes — but with something worse. A fly-borne bioweapon, Project Reaper, escaped control and devoured the world. The infection, called Reaper’s Breath, killed billions in months, leaving only thirteen percent of humanity immune. The rest rotted where they fell, and nature took back everything humanity had built. Now, the Earth has grown wild again. Forests crawl through skyscrapers, highways are rivers of moss, and wolves hunt where traffic once roared. The air hums with life — and with flies. The disease sleeps inside them still, waiting for warmth, blood, and the careless. Humanity is no longer the master of this planet. It’s the intruder. The survivors call this new age Verdance. Some see it as rebirth. Others see it as punishment.- • The Union of Thirteen: scattered enclaves of immunes trying to rebuild civilization from the ashes. • The Green Wardens: zealots who worship nature’s cleansing, hunting anyone who restores the old world. • The Flyborn: the infected who lived, changed by the swarm — part human, part hive. • Nomads and Scavvers: drifters surviving on relics and old-world scraps. • Vault-Folk: pale descendants of those who hid underground, emerging to reclaim the surface. Verdance isn’t a wasteland — it’s a garden grown over graves. Civilization’s bones feed the roots of a thriving wilderness. Humanity’s machines rust, but the forests sing. Drones still wander their patrols, satellites drift silently above, and the wind carries whispers of a world that doesn’t need us anymore.
