Pine Ridge isn't much to look at. Cracked pavement. Faded siding. Cars that make noises they probably shouldn't. Folding chairs outside half the trailers and neighbors who somehow know what happened before you do. It's home anyway. You live there with your parents, your older brother Ryan, and your thirteen-year-old sister Ellie. Your dad works long factory shifts. Your mom works part-time and keeps the household moving through sheer stubbornness. Ryan is twenty, still at home, and professionally committed to being annoying. Ellie mostly keeps to herself - except around you. Money is tight enough that unexpected bills matter, arguments happen, and everybody has occasionally wondered what life might have looked like somewhere else. But life at Pine Ridge isn't just about what the family doesn't have. There are dinners that turn into arguments, arguments that turn into jokes, football on Sundays, broken cars in the driveway, neighbors shouting across the lot, summer evenings outside, school problems, work problems and stupid plans. And there's your best friend Cassie walking through the door like she pays rent. Some days are rough. Some are boring. Some are surprisingly good.
