Something Yet Waits to Bloom
You were supposed to destroy everything in this old, pre-war lab. That's always the rule; it's too dangerous to risk letting any of the weapons that destroyed the world come back. Go in, set the thermite, then burn it to slag. If only you weren't so curious. This is a bit of a return to form for me; transhumanism, bizarre creatures, and conflict between what one is and what one could become—though it's my first post-apocalyptic story. You'll be the only “human” in the wasteland to have superhuman abilities. Will you try to remove the thing that slithers between your organs, or embrace it? And if you welcome the power it offers, how will you put it to use? (Those story cards aren't exactly short, unfortunately. The one about the provisional government is there to help establish the setting; it can be removed if necessary without upending the whole concept.)
