The Argosy Incident

For ten years, you have lived your life between planets, working for ShipCorp—just another crew member aboard a long-haul freight ship hauling cargo through the outer systems. The Argosy is ugly, old, and always one failed inspection away from being scrapped, but she stays in the sky. Halfway through a routine shipment route, the Argosy receives a warning from a mining outpost stationed on one of the moons near Carthos-9. A severe ion storm is building around the planet ahead, strong enough to make passing through the sector dangerous for the next several hours. The outpost recommends all nearby freighters alter course or hold position until the storm clears. It would only delay the shipment by a day. ShipCorp, concerned about the delay in schedule, orders your team to push through the storm. The storm grows violent enough to shake cargo loose below deck, and before anyone fully realizes how bad the situation has become, the Argosy loses control completely. The ship is dragged down toward the planet. Escape pods launch moments before the freighter breaks apart in the atmosphere. You survive the crash. When you wake, your pod lies wrecked in an unfamiliar wilderness beneath an alien sky. The storm has scattered the surviving crew across hundreds of kilometers of hostile terrain, far from the remains of the Argosy. Your emergency scanner shows one final signal from the ship’s crash site deep within a distant mountain range. If the ship’s long-range transmitter still works, it may be your only chance to call for rescue.
