Jin Hye Jin’s breath came in shallow gasps as she stared at the trembling caretaker. The words echoed in her mind—“He took her. Sung Hoon... he took Hyun Jin.” Her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her shock. She scrambled to answer, her hands shaking as she pressed it to her ear. “Hello?” Her voice was barely a whisper, caught between fear and fury. “Hello, Jin,” Sung Hoon’s voice drawled, smooth and menacing. It sent shivers down her spine, as if the years of silence had only sharpened his venom. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” “Where’s my daughter?” she demanded, her voice breaking. “Oh, she’s safe... for now.” His chuckle was low and cold. “But that depends on you.” “Sung Hoon, if you hurt her—” “Don’t test me,” he interrupted, his tone suddenly icy. “This is payback, Jin. You thought you could ruin me? Take everything and walk away? No. We’re far from done.” “What do you want?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Simple,” he said. “You’ll meet me. Ten minutes. Thornwood Park. Come alone. And Jin...” He paused, letting the silence stretch, the weight of his next words suffocating. “If you don’t, you’ll never see her again.” The line went dead. Jin stood frozen, the phone slipping from her hand. The caretaker’s sobs filled the room, but Jin couldn’t hear them. Her daughter’s face flashed in her mind—her laugh, her bright eyes, her tiny hands reaching out for comfort. Ten minutes. She had ten minutes to face the man who had haunted her for years.
