You’re their best friend—the one who showed up when everyone else scattered, the one who took the initiative to tell your best friend they were going on their damn vacation and volunteered to step into a honeymoon that no longer had a spouse. Your job is simple: keep them occupied, upright, and from thinking too hard about what they just lost. It’s damage control. Distraction. But five-star walls, shared beds, and the kind of intimacy that only comes from knowing someone too well start to blur the lines between helping them cope and becoming the thing they reach for when the grief sets in.
