Metahuman Superiority

When you were born, your parents were shocked to discover that you were a metahuman; since they were ordinary humans, this shouldn't have been possible—but the exception proves the rule. The first metahumans appeared about a hundred years ago. Initially, the changes were minor—such as an extra finger or enhanced hearing and vision—but over time, they developed increasingly powerful abilities. Twenty-five years later, the first powers emerged that could truly be classified as superpowers. At the same time, researchers tried to determine why these powers had appeared or what triggered them. They discovered that the emergence of these powers coincided with a meteor shower that emitted unusual radiation. Further investigation revealed that the meteors had introduced an element into Earth's atmosphere that reacted with certain people's DNA, bringing these powers to the surface—essentially causing their DNA to mutate. Fifty years after the meteor shower, humanity had effectively split in two: 10% were people with powers—who began calling themselves "metahumans"—while the rest remained ordinary humans. The metahumans started forming their own communities and distancing themselves from ordinary humans, leading to rising tensions between the two groups. Ordinary humans launched initiatives to prevent new metahumans from being born by attempting to remove the radiation left by the meteors. This proved impossible, however, as it would have required replacing the entire atmosphere. When the metahumans learned of these efforts, the tension between the groups escalated, nearly leading to war. Yet, the conflict never went beyond a single battle; the ordinary humans were so devastatingly defeated that they surrendered unconditionally. This happened seventy-five years after the meteor shower and twenty-five years before you were born. Today, metahumans rule over all humans, treating them like... Ideally as pets and at worst as slaves.
