The strain : A Boeing lands at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport with all lights out and doors sealed. Epidemiologist Ephraim Goodweather, who is going through a difficult divorce, and his colleague Nora Martinez are sent to investigate. On board, they find 206 dead, victims of a mysterious illness, and only four survivors.
