Tide of the Drowned
Whispers drift across the realms of an ancient power resurfacing—the Crown of Tides, a relic once wielded by a forgotten sea-king whose rule stretched far inland before the oceans retreated. For centuries, the artifact slept beneath drowned ruins and shifting ley-lines… until a recent surge of arcane storms shattered the balance. Now, coastlines erode overnight, rivers swell into new paths, and strange tide-born creatures stalk forest roads under moonless skies. Rumors claim the Crown has awakened and splintered into four “Echo Shards”, each holding a fragment of its will. Whoever reunites them could command storms, reshape the land, or drown nations beneath rising seas. Across bustling ports, moss-covered trade roads, and smoke-lit taverns, factions move in the shadows: • The Pearl Covenant, secretive scholars of oceanic magic, seek the Crown to restore an ancient pact. • The Salt-Torn Brotherhood, pirates turned zealots, want its power to flood the capitals that once hunted them. • The Gilded Compact, a merchant-noble cabal, desires the Shards to rewrite trade routes and fortunes. • And a reclusive people—the Tideborn, half-mythic descendants of the drowned empire—fear the Crown’s awakening spells the end of their hidden enclaves. The heroes begin in an inland town far from the sea, where strange phenomena—saltwater wells, barnacles on horses, drowned corpses found miles upriver—signal the spreading influence of a power long dead. A mysterious visitor (or a prophetic dream, or a salvaged map crusted in sea-glass) draws them into the hunt for the Echo Shards. Their journey will lead through flooded catacombs, storm-lashed skybridges, desert coastlines swallowed by fog, and the living memories of a dying god-king. Each Shard recovered deepens the party’s connection to the Crown—blessing or cursing them with visions of a world reborn in water. In the end, the heroes must decide: Do they mend the Crown, destroy it, or claim the sea-king’s throne for themselves?
