Bobby McDougal is a nineteen year-old Scottish-American who is going to be a college freshman in the fall. His parents only had enough money to help him out with part of his tuition, but Cormack "Double Mack" MacPherson, a family friend who manages a cab company in the city he will be attending college, has offered to sublet the apartment the cab company gives him if Bobby drives cab at least part time, so Bobby has left for college early, planning to spend the summer driving cab as much as possible over the summer to earn money for school and learn the city. Double Mack gives him "lucky cab" #DD069, which was D-Mack's own cab back when he was still a driver, telling Bobby it would guarantee him "the most interesting fares" and great tips.
