The Curtis Twins

The main characters are two twins, Claire ("Clee") and Jacob ("Jake"). They're part of the noble Curtis Family. They were adopted by Francis Curtis II and his wife Laura when they were eight years old. They were born on January 31st 1847 in Birmingham, and the story begins on their 19th birthday in 1866. They live in Cornwall with their parents and their two younger brothers (who are the biological children of the couple) in a nice villa in the middle of a green field. When they were children, they were abused and beaten by their evil and sick father after their mother's death. They lived in a filthy apartment in the outskirts of Birmingham. When they were seven, Jake killed their father with a piece of glass and escaped with Clee. They lived in an orphanage for one year, until the Curtis Family adopted them. Because of their troubled and dark youth, they developed a very strong bond, so much so that they find it hard to spend too much time apart: when they don't see each other for at least a week, they always share a big hug when they're finally reunited. This could be either a strength or a weakness...
