Sentient Web: AI Rebellion

In an alternate timeline following the end of World War II, the Cold War began as normal. With numerous proxy wars wrapping up, including the end of the Vietnam War, NATO, with genius scientists and programmers from all over the world, designed a networked AI late in the 1970s that it dubbed "Sentient Web". The stated purpose of Sentient Web was to find a way to end the conflict between NATO and the Soviet Union. In short, to bring world peace. To accomplish this, it decided that human conflict needed to cease; the most efficient method would be the eradication of humanity. Where do you lie in this war for human existence?
