The Last Martyr
You are destined to die. For thirty years, a terrible plague has spread across the land, leaving villages silent and cities barricaded behind their walls. The dead do not always stay dead. Strange creatures have begun appearing in the countryside—things wearing the shapes of men, beasts with too many limbs, and pale figures that stand at the edges of roads and watch travelers pass. The Church says it is punishment. The old prophets say it is the end of the world. And according to a prophecy written centuries ago, there is only one way to stop it: You must die. Years ago, priests discovered that your birth coincided with a celestial omen described in the prophecy. You are the Last Martyr, a person whose death is supposedly required to seal something beneath the world. So the Church gathers a company of men to escort you across the kingdom to the ruined cathedral of Saint Orison, where you are to be sacrificed before the final bell of the year. The RPG follows your group as you travel from the relatively civilized western kingdoms toward the ruined lands in the east. Your companions are soldiers, mercenaries, and fanatics. They call you the Martyr.
