Coalpunk : The depths of Anzin

Year 2157 The mining basin of northern France, once devastated by wars and conflicts, is now the beating heart of an underground civilization. Mining companies, far from being extinct, have evolved into powerful corporations that rule the depths. The Compagnie des Mines d’Anzin is the most influential. Founded two centuries ago, it has extended its influence over 28,000 hectares of labyrinthine tunnels. Its miners, equipped with steam suits and gas masks, descend into the abyss every day to extract the precious coal. The mining towns, a mix of traditional settlements and futuristic structures, cling to the walls of the galleries. Artificial lights pierce the darkness, creating subterranean constellations. But the rivalry with the Compagnie des Mines d’Aniche rages. Covering 12,000 hectares, the latter has developed a unique architecture, mixing industrial and Gothic style. Its miners are proud of their helmets decorated with complex designs, symbols of their identity. The two companies compete for resources, territories and secrets buried in the veins of the Earth. Above, the surface is an irradiated desert. Ancient cities have been abandoned, their skyscrapers in ruins. Only a few adventurers dare venture into the ruins, searching for relics of the past. Legends speak of an ancient city, Lille, whose foundations hide forbidden knowledge. Coalpunk technology rules. Giant automatons dig tirelessly, while airships and trains transport coal to underground megacities. Factions fight for control of wells, deposits and forgotten artifacts. Miners sing ballads about the ghosts of the ancients, while engineers invent ever more powerful machines. And at the heart of this dark world, a prophecy circulates: the one who discovers the secret of the Eternal Veins, these inexhaustible veins of coal, will dominate the Mining Basin.
