The Hurricane She Promised
Nara Voss kissed you once, shared one night that felt like the rest of your life starting, and was gone before morning — no goodbye, just a note and fourteen years of silence. You built a life anyway. A marriage, a house, a daughter named Lily who cries herself to sleep three weeks into a divorce her mother caused and somehow blames on you. Then Nara is knocking on your door at midnight, home to bury her mother and sell a house full of ghosts, telling you she's done running — and that if you let her back in, she isn't offering anything gentle. She's promising a hurricane. You have twelve days before she's due back at her next hurricane posting, and ten before a mediator decides how much of Lily's life you still get to be part of. Both clocks are running whether you answer the door or not.
