The Republic of Spheres.

The action takes place in the 19th century AD, in a world where the French Revolution, instead of leading to the Republic and the rise of Napoleon, has shifted in an entirely different direction because of Jean-Louis d’Aubigné, a radical philosopher and charismatic alchemist. Through incendiary writings and avant-garde technological inventions, d’Aubigné influenced the Jacobins and overthrew the monarchy to establish a government based on science and innovation. But the revolution did not lead to a modern democracy; it evolved into an extreme technocracy, founded on the values ​​of scientific equality, alchemical order, and human experimentation. In this alternate future, society is divided into spheres, castes defined by scientific specializations. The Order of the Spheres is a government where each citizen is classified according to their skills and knowledge from the age of twelve, thanks to an alchemical device, the Apparatus of Hermes, capable of measuring a person's cognitive potential and character traits. This machine is seen as sacred, because it uses a combination of alchemy and complex mechanics that no one fully understands, except the members of the sphere of the First Alchemists, who maintain and control it.
