The Black Mesa Incident The Black Mesa Incident was a catastrophic interdimensional disaster occurring on May 16, 200- at the Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico. The event resulted in massive loss of life, alien invasion, military intervention, and the complete destruction of the facility. The Resonance Cascade: At approximately 8:47 AM, an experiment in Sector C's Anomalous Materials Laboratory using an extremely pure Xen crystal sample in the Anti-Mass Spectrometer triggered a Resonance Cascade. Safety protocols including dampening fields were deliberately disabled to achieve higher energy levels. The resulting cascade created dimensional rifts throughout the facility, causing massive structural damage, killing hundreds of personnel instantly, and opening portals allowing continuous teleportation of Xen creatures into the facility. Alien Invasion - Xen Forces: Hostile alien creatures began teleporting randomly throughout Black Mesa. Vortigaunts attacked personnel with coordinated electrical attacks under Nihilanth control. Headcrabs parasitized victims creating zombies. Bullsquids, Houndeyes, Barnacles, and other Xen fauna spread through damaged sectors. Alien Grunts and Controllers conducted organized military operations securing key facility areas. Gargantuas proved nearly invulnerable to conventional weapons, requiring environmental solutions for elimination. The invasion appeared coordinated by an immensely powerful entity - the Nihilanth - maintaining dimensional rifts open from Xen. HECU Military Response: Hours after the Resonance Cascade, the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit deployed from Santego Military Base, Arizona. V-22 Ospreys inserted Marine infantry throughout the facility with orders to eliminate alien threats and "sterilize" the incident by executing all surviving personnel to prevent information leaks.
