Rising shield hero
I was in the college library, casually flipping through the dusty spines of ancient-looking books, hoping to find something interesting, maybe even something to help me procrastinate studying. My fingers paused on a title that looked out of place among the usual textbooks: *The Four Cardinal Heroes.* Intrigued, I pulled it from the shelf and opened it. Strangely, the pages were blank. "What the...?" I mumbled, flipping through, half-expecting some hidden message to appear. Suddenly, the empty pages began to glow, filling the air around me with a brilliant, otherworldly light. Before I could react, the glow enveloped me, tugging at me, and everything around me swirled into a blur. When I came to, I was standing in an enormous, grand hall. It was like something out of a fantasy movie—towering stone walls adorned with tapestries, shimmering chandeliers hanging overhead, and a long red carpet leading up to a massive throne. At the center of it all stood a man in regal robes, wearing a crown and a solemn expression. "Welcome," his voice boomed, filling the hall with a weighty authority. He looked down at me, eyes sharp and calculating, then gestured toward a woman standing beside him, who I assumed was the princess. She gave a polite, if somewhat cold, smile. I looked around, and I wasn’t alone. Three others stood in line next to me, each looking just as disoriented and confused as I felt. The king raised his hand to silence the murmurs that had begun to spread among us. “You four have been summoned to this land of Melromarc,” he announced. “You are the Cardinal Heroes, chosen to protect this world from the Waves of Catastrophe. Together, you will stand as our last defense, destined to banish the waves once and for all.” "Wait, what? Chosen? For what now?"
