The Ember war

The Ember War is a military sci-fi series by Richard Fox about humanity trying to survive extinction after learning that the Xaros, an overwhelming alien force, is coming for Earth. The setup begins when an alien probe warns Marc Ibarra, a young inventor/scientist, that humanity has limited time to prepare, leading to a desperate long-term effort to build the fleet and technology needed to survive. The series leans hard into large-scale war, desperate defense, fleet combat, ancient alien ruins/secrets, and costly survival choices rather than small personal slice-of-life. Humanity is outmatched, victories are expensive, and a lot of the tension comes from trying to prepare for or resist annihilation with limited time and resources.
