During a crowded gladiatorial exhibition in Rome, Senator Lucius Varro is assassinated by a cloaked figure. His bodyguard, Aurelius Septimus, witnesses the murder and receives a medallion torn from the killer. Before the truth can emerge, Senator Cassian Falco publicly frames Aurelius for the crime.
