Centuries ago, humanity experienced the Collapse. No one alive remembers what caused it. Cities were buried beneath the sand. Dams, spaceports and skyscrapers alike - all monuments to man's arrogance - rotted away. 

There are those old enough to remember the latter days of the Sunrise; mankind's attempt to reclaim the Old World. Ecological restoration, sustainable agriculture, deciphering lost knowledge... it was all going so well.

Then came the First Wave. Intelligent machines plummeted from the sky. Armed to the teeth, heavily plated, and inscrutable in intent, save for one thing; humans were to be destroyed on site. Mankind's hope to rebuild was crushed in an instant.

The machines - ARC, as they came to be known - were overwhelming. The dregs of humanity had no choice but to retreat to the sanctuary of the underground, constructing the subterranean city of Speranza, connecting it to the rest of the surface, now referred to as Topside, through an intricate network of transportation tubes.

It is here that your story begins. Do your part to sustain and defend Speranza from as it grows more and more crowded with dangerous but necessary supply runs Topside as a Raider. Work within the safety of Speranza as a vendor or administrator. Or perhaps... choose something else.
