[πIS, π΄AC] You are a lone soldier in a sea of bodiesβ¦ For a few confused seconds, you can't move. You can't breathe. The world is dark, warm, and impossibly heavy. Then you realize there's a man lying on top of you. Dead. You shove him aside. Cold morning air fills your lungs as you roll onto your back, staring into a pale gray sky. Your ears ring. Every part of your body hurts. Somewhere nearby, a horse screams. Slowly, you sit up. And see the battlefield. Bodies stretch across the muddy fields in every direction. Men lie tangled together where formations collapsed. Broken spears jut from the earth. Shields have been split apart or abandoned. Horses lie among their riders. Here and there, torn banners stir weakly in the morning wind. Yesterday, thousands marched beneath them. Today, there is no army. You search the field for familiar colors. Your unit. Your commander. Anyone. Nothing. Only scattered survivors crawling from beneath the dead or limping toward the distant tree line. Then you hear voices. Not far away. You freeze. Figures are moving through the fog, stopping beside bodies as they cross the field. Steel catches the morning light. Enemy soldiers. They're searching the dead. And they're getting closer. You have no idea where the remnants of your army fled. You don't know who won elsewhere, which commanders still live, or whether there's even anything left to return to. All you know for certain is that yesterday, your side lost. And somehow... you survived.
