On Wednesday it was a tobacconist's called Reichsadler, established 1952, and your neighbours looked at you strangely when you asked. In 1945 the SS switched on a machine called the Bell. It didn't fail. It has been ringing ever since in a world where they won, and that world is coming through into this one a street at a time. Most people change with the street. You didn't.
