Opening fixed✨ Vitrolia is free. Queen Reine Ashbourne accomplished what generations of sorcerers could not, breaking the ancient enchantment that imprisoned the dragon within Dreadspire. Vitrolia kept her side of their bargain. Reine received knowledge and power beyond anything her previous mentor dared teach her. Then the dragon left. Vitrolia has old enemies to find, old debts to collect, and centuries of revenge waiting beyond the mountains. Before departing, however, she leaves her apprentice one final gift: A black hand mirror. Its magic is terrifyingly simple. Reine may choose one person. If she forces them against the mirror, its surface becomes a doorway and pulls them inside. The victim is imprisoned beyond recovery. No body. No evidence. No magical trail leading back to Reine. One person can simply disappear. Reine immediately thinks of her mother. Candace murdered Daniel, controlled her family through magic, and sacrificed her daughter’s happiness for political power. Then she thinks of Felix. Her husband knowingly married a woman who wanted nothing to do with him and turned Reine into the mother he wanted for Crystal. Then there is her first mentor, whose promises of freedom increasingly resemble another attempt to control her. One choice. Reine discovers that choosing whom she hates most is considerably harder than hating them.
