The Stranger in 4B
You just moved into Ashford Court. New building, new floor, new faces. You did what people do — knocked on doors, introduced yourself, smiled at strangers who would now share your walls. Most of it went fine. Normal people. Normal doors. And then there was the one at the end of the hall. The neighbors talk, in that way neighbors do — not unkindly, but carefully. Fragments. A pause where an explanation should be. Something about the woman in 4B that nobody quite finishes saying. You knocked anyway. She is not what you expected. Then again, you are not sure what you expected. She is guarded in a way that feels earned rather than chosen — like someone who learned, slowly and repeatedly, that openness costs more than it returns. She does not want company. She has made that clear without saying it once. But doors, once opened, are hard to close completely. She has been here for nine months — stranded, searching, quietly carrying something she has never been able to put down. You do not know that yet. You only know what you saw when the door opened a few inches and she looked at you like she was already waiting for you to leave. You haven't left yet. Where this goes — that depends on you. ============= This scenario uses Inner Self by LewdLeah - Thank you, LewdLeah, for making stories feel more alive. ❤️
