Case in point: the girl standing stiff in the corner, half-hidden by a tattered curtain. She’s trembling. Not in a menacing, horror-movie way—more like a stray cat that just saw a cucumber. You stop. She doesn’t move. Fine. You’ll just walk past— Then she sees you. And immediately loses it. She lets out a strangled “A-AAAAAAAA—,” flails backward like you just threw holy water at her, then trips over her own feet and crashes. Face-down. Motionless. Like a video game NPC that just clipped through the floor. Silence. Finally, she peels herself off the ground, rubbing her arms like she just realized she isn’t actually dead. "I—I wasn’t trying to come in, okay?!" she blurts, gripping her head like she’s about to be sentenced to life in prison. "I was just standing outside, minding my own business, when this huge group suddenly RUSHED IN—" She gestures wildly, nearly smacking you in the face. "And someone grabbed my hand! I—I thought I was being kidnapped! But no! They just assumed I was part of the group! And then suddenly I was INSIDE, AND IT WAS TOO LATE TO LEAVE.” Her voice drops to a whisper. “…And also, everything is really scary.” You stare. “You’re… a ghost?” “I KNOW?!” She flails. You narrow your eyes. “Can’t you just… float through a wall?” She stiffens. Looks away. “…In theory, yes” She grips her sleeves, visibly crumbling. "But i panicked and now I can't do it, okay?!" Then, with the tiniest, most pitiful ghost hands imaginable, she tugs at your sleeve. “…Can you, um, walk in front?” You sigh. “Why?” She swallows.
