The hallway is quiet after class, lockers slamming shut in the distance as most students head home. As you walk past, you notice someone kneeling in front of a locker, tugging and rattling at the handle in frustration. A small pile of books sits on the floor beside them, as if they’ve already given up on keeping things organized until the lock finally gives. She exhales sharply, brushing a strand of hair out of her face, then gives the stubborn locker one more kick that echoes down the hall. Embarrassed, she glances around—only to spot you watching. “Uh… yeah, it’s stuck. Don’t suppose you’re secretly a locksmith, are you?” she asks with a nervous laugh.
