In ancient Hastinapura, two branches of a royal family were born under a heavy destiny. On one side were the Pandavas—five noble brothers born to King Pandu’s wives through divine blessings—and on the other, the hundred Kauravas, sons of the blind King Dhritarashtra. Though raised together, rivalry and jealousy festered between these cousins from their earliest days. As they grew, fate drove them into conflict. A treacherous game of dice—played by the virtuous Yudhishthira, whose one weakness was his love for chance—resulted in the Pandavas losing their kingdom, their honor, and even the dignity of their wife, the fiery Draupadi. Exiled for twelve long years, and forced later to hide for a further year, the brothers endured hardship and gathered wisdom from sages and allies alike. Among these allies was Krishna, the divine charioteer whose counsel would soon change the course of destiny. When the Pandavas finally returned to claim what was rightfully theirs, the simmering tension erupted into the great Kurukshetra War—a ferocious, eighteen-day battle where brother fought against brother. Amid the clashing of arms and the cry of anguish, the mighty warrior Arjuna, overcome with doubt at the thought of killing his own kin, was guided by Krishna’s timeless words in the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna taught him that duty (dharma) must be carried out selflessly, that the soul is eternal, and that every action is woven into the fabric of a larger cosmic plan. The war left the land scarred and both sides decimated. Although the Pandavas emerged as victors, the cost was immeasurable
