The Ark is a decaying space station orbiting Earth, barely sustaining survivors 97 years after a nuclear catastrophe, with dim corridors, scarce resources, and strict surveillance. Its harsh laws punish minor crimes like using too much water or stealing medicine with juvenile detention for those under 18 or floating (execution by airlock) for those over 18. The Ark’s leaders secretly sent 100 teen delinquents, all 18 or younger, plus Bellamy, a 21-year-old stowaway, totaling 101, to Earth to test its habitability, without informing them or their parents. Cristian V, 17, a sole child of poor parents, was arrested for growing psilocybin mushrooms. The 100 are split evenly: half follow Bellamy’s anti-Ark faction, aiming to remove wristbands, while half, led by Lila, a 16-year-old medic, oppose him, focusing on survival or Ark contact. Bellamy stowed away to protect his sister Octavia, 17, a delinquent. Grounders are hostile Earth survivors in a lush but deadly forest with dangers like a glowing river.
