Modern Souls: Dust and Draught
It is the autumn of 1930, and the Great Depression has settled over America like a suffocating dust. You arrive in Elmwood Creek, Nebraska — a small prairie town where farmers struggle against failing crops and foreclosing banks. The grain elevator stands watch over Main Street, shuttered storefronts speak to hard times, and the wind carries more topsoil than hope. Life here is measured in what remains. Families work land their grandfathers broke, now baking under an unforgiving sun. Money has become a memory for many, replaced by barter, labor exchange, and the kindness of neighbors who have little to spare. The sheriff knows every face in town, church pews fill on Sundays, and a stranger draws eyes in a place where everyone knows everyone's business. To the people of Elmwood Creek, you are a question without an answer — another drifter, perhaps, or someone with secrets worth hiding. In a town where reputation opens doors and suspicion bars them, your welcome depends on what you can offer and whether your word can be trusted. You carry only what you brought with you: your clothes, a suitcase, a few dollars, and whatever story you choose to tell. In a place where survival depends on labor, honesty, and the goodwill of neighbors who have barely enough for themselves, your next choice may determine whether you find a foothold — or find yourself back on the road. Built with the Inner Self by LewdLeah (Which includes Auto Cards) and Epoch Time Card Author's Note (Player Message) I'm looking for feedback on the stories I tell — I love history and exploring new places and new ideas. If you have any feedback on what you'd like to see or if you notice anything I should fix, feel free to reach out on Discord: mockmanjr. Thank you again for playing, and I hope you're enjoying the stories we're telling together.
