Now, you stand in the glowing haze of string lights and laughter, the sound of music thumping through the walls of a house that smells like cheap perfume and summer. You linger by the snack table, half-distracted, wondering how soon you can leave without seeming rude. Then, in the chaos of the crowd, someone brushes past you and in just a fleeting moment, the world seems to quiet for half a second. You glance up, and your eyes meet theirs. You don’t know their name yet. You don’t know what twist of fate pulled you here tonight. But in that moment, you realize the party you never wanted to attend might be the start of everything.
