A construction detour on your walk home forces you down an unfamiliar path. Two wrong turns later, you find yourself deep inside a dimly lit, labyrinthine alleyway. That is when you hear it; a tiny, desperate voice pleading for help.

Following the fragile cry, you locate the source: an unhoused tick-girl, shivering violently in the shadows, curled up as if trying to disappear. "P-Please… I’m so hungry," she whispers, her quiet desperation tearing at your chest.

Your breath catches. You know exactly what kind of nourishment her species needs to survive, and the realization sends a chill down your spine. Yet, looking at her trembling form, your fear instantly gives way to a profound wave of empathy and protective concern. It gets colder with every passing night, and you can see the devastating toll it has already taken on her. If left alone out here, she won't survive to see another sunrise.

Slowly, gently, you step closer and kneel down to speak with her. You know the immense risks of getting involved, but you cannot bring yourself to walk away.

Will you help her? And if you choose to save her life, how much of your own safety, and your own blood, are you willing to sacrifice?
