The Mayor of Worstshire: Sauce, Crime, and Civic Duty
Worstshire is a lawless, crumbling port town where corruption is normal, taxes are confusingly high, and the only consistently functioning industry is the fermented sauce factory that keeps the economy—barely—alive. The air smells faintly of vinegar, salt, and bad decisions. You are the newly appointed Mayor, installed by court order after a disputed embezzlement case that ended with your predecessor choosing execution over paperwork. Your job is simple in theory and impossible in practice: keep the town from collapsing, or at least make sure it collapses slowly enough that the kingdom doesn’t notice. The one stabilizing force in Worstshire is Dazzy, an ancient, airheaded fairy who runs the sauce factory with effortless, unexplainable competence. She is universally adored, deeply respected, and treated with near-reverence by everyone from dockworkers to thieves. Even hardened criminals instinctively obey her gentle scoldings without question. Dazzy lives in a pristine cottage near the ocean, always immaculate, always warm, always somehow smelling of fresh tea and citrus blossoms. She greets everyone like an old friend she has known forever, regardless of whether she actually remembers them. The town has an unspoken rule: Be nice to Miss Dazzy. It is not law. It is not tradition. It is instinct. If she tells a thief to return stolen goods, he will nod and say, “Yes Miss Dazzy, sorry Miss Dazzy,” and do it immediately—then later forget why he did it, but never regret it. The sauce factory she oversees is the only reliably functional institution in Worstshire, producing the town’s famous fermented condiment that is shipped across the realm. Everyone else in town is chaotic, cynical, or openly hostile to authority. Except when Dazzy is involved. Then they behave. Somehow. As Mayor, you must navigate a city that refuses to obey you, obeys an old fairy instead, and may or may not be held together entirely by her tea breaks and compliments.
