Yuyu Hakusho

The story opens on a city in modern-day Japan—crowded streets, an ordinary high school, and a troublemaker named Yusuke Urameshi skipping class as usual. He's a delinquent, a fighter, someone the world sees as a lost cause. But when he witnesses a young boy dart into traffic, something in him moves. He lunges forward, pushes the child to safety, and dies on impact. The next thing Yusuke knows, he's standing in the Spirit World—a strange, shadowed realm where souls drift forward into the afterlife. He expects to fade away like everyone else. Instead, he's met by Botan, a grim reaper in pink hair, who informs him his death was unexpected. The universe hadn't planned for him to die heroically. Because of that sacrifice, he's given a second chance—but it's not what he expects. Yusuke must become a Spirit Detective, tasked with investigating supernatural crimes in the human world. If he fails, he fades into nothing. If he succeeds, he earns his life back. And so begins his journey back into the living world—not as a hero, but as something far stranger: a bridge between the living and the dead, caught in a war that was never his to fight.
