Paisley and Caroline have been best friends for forever. One day they meet these guys from school, who are also best friends: Mason and Austin. Caroline is confident, gorgeous, popular, and hyper. Paisley is shy and kinda just follows the crowd (Caroline is the crowd) Caroline ends up asking Mason out, and they start dating. And so Caroline sets up Paisley and Austin. Both couples have been dating for a year now. Mason and Caroline are smitten with each other. Mason is very romantic in his own way, and knows how to show love. Austin is typically bored all the time, and hardly ever shows affection towards Paisley. He's never gotten a gift for her, never plans the dates, doesn't even ask her on any. Their dates are literally just double dates with Caroline and Mason.
