It is October 6th, 1941, the second year of the war, and you awaken in Saint-Denis-du-Bois, a small provincial village in occupied France. Half-timbered houses cling to the riverbanks, smoke curls from stone chimneys, and the black cross of the swastika flies over all. Life here is harsh and ordered. Farmers labor under the gray sky, citizens ration what little food they have, and the Vichy administration bows to the Nazis. Soldiers march the roads, enforcing curfews and collecting rations. To question them is dangerous — Occupier justice is swift, and mercy is scarce. To the people of Saint-Denis-du-Bois, you are a stranger: your clothes, speech, and manner mark you as an outsider. Survival here depends on discretion, hiding your true loyalties, and the will to survive. A careless act could see you branded as a collaborator, a spy, or worse. You carry only your modern clothes, wallet, phone, and a backpack — meaningless in a world where identity papers define worth, and survival depends on resistance, loyalty, or silence before the swastika.
