AID With a Real d20! 🎲
PLAY ANY SCENARIO WITH A REAL d20! (Replace the default action instruction with this d20 instruction.) Example in AI Instructions. How it works: Roll a real 20-sided die outside the game whenever you attempt an action. Describe what you are attempting — not whether you succeed or not. Choose one format and stay consistent: I attempt to… I roll to… I try to… After your action, add a new line: Roll: 1–20 Examples: I attempt to unlock the door by pressing my missing thumb to the fingerprint lock. Roll: 3 I attempt to guess the code by licking the keypad. Roll: 20 Resolution: The AI must base the outcome strictly on the Roll number. 1 = critical failure 2–5 = failure 6–10 = success with complication 11–15 = success 16–19 = strong success 20 = critical success Setup: If your scenario contains: - > tokens mean a character action attempt. You should describe what happens when the player attempts that action. Generating '###' is forbidden. Delete it and replace it with the new d20 instruction. Otherwise, paste this at the bottom of the AI Instructions. --- One of my biggest annoyances with AID is that the AI is terrible at deciding pass/fail. If I type: I try to avoid nicking it with my teeth. It automatically fails. If I type: I avoid nicking it with my teeth. It automatically passes. That removes the chance. The gamble. The fun. So I stopped asking the AI to “decide.” It is not a referee. It is a storyteller that panics when you hand it a coin flip. This fixes it. You decide your action. You roll your regular icosahedron of destiny. You tell the AI the result. The story obeys the number… most of the time. No mind-reading. No vibes. No algorithm. Only what the dice overlord commands. (Anyone may use this on any scenario or adventure. No need to give me credit.) --- One more thing — I finally reached the halfway point to my ultimate goal! 🍾 Thank you to everyone who stuck around despite my best efforts. Take the heart. Take it. 😳🫀
