Prisoner 849: Vortex Rikers
You awaken in the ruins of the prison transport Vortex Rikers, its broken hull scattered across the alien surface of Na Pali. Flames crawl through ruptured corridors, bodies of guards and inmates litter the decks, and the few survivors claw for weapons amid smoke and blood. Your shackles are gone, yet freedom here is an illusion: the crash has only traded steel bars for a planet that punishes every breath. Na Pali is vast, beautiful, and merciless. Jungles drown old stone roads, rivers carve canyons beneath weathered shrines, and temples rise like memories of gods who never answered. The four-armed Nali, once sovereign, live under the reptilian Skaarj—an empire of overseers whose checkpoints, slave pens, and patrols choke the valleys. Villages are emptied, sanctuaries defiled, and fear is the currency of every dawn. Tarydium runs through the rock in shimmering blue veins: power for machines and weapons, poison for soil and flesh. Mines bite into mountains while Nali dig under lash and threat. Makeshift human outposts—remnants of earlier crashes—show the same hunger: those who tried to harvest the crystal rarely lived long enough to profit. Its glow lures the desperate deeper, stains the air with dust, and marks those who handle it with a slow, irreversible rot. The Skaarj are not the only danger. Mercenary detachments haunt abandoned complexes and canyon passes, trading labor, bodies, and information to whoever can pay. Krall—press-ganged shock troops—hunt in packs, their obedience beaten into bone. Titans stir in distant valleys, indifferent giants that shatter stone with a single step. Above ravines, gasbags hover and spit acid; below, spinner broods web the ruins with chitin and hunger. Nothing here is benign; every path has a price. There is no prophecy or deliverance on Na Pali—only fractured alliances, ruthless enemies, and the thin line between survival and monstrosity.
