Slowburn Character System

Ever feel like your AI characters have no middle ground? One minute they’re a polite stranger, and three turns later—after a single compliment—they’re professing their undying loyalty. I wanted something more realistic, so I built Slowburn. Slowburn is a lightweight scripting system for AI Dungeon designed to track NPC personality shifts on a 0–100 scale. It’s built for creators who want their characters to change gradually based on actual interactions, rather than flipping a switch. **How it works:** You define the stages in your Story Cards (from "Cold Distrust" to "Unwavering Loyalty" or anything in between), set your Gain/Drain rates, and let the scripts handle the math. The NPC’s behavior shifts naturally as you play, creating a true "slow burn" experience. Multiple story cards can be created for the character if you need additional space; Duplicate your Story Card and then change the number on the line that says "Evolution Stages Part {Number} on the new card. Step 1: Create a Character type Story Card named "${Character Name} Evolution Card". Step 2: In the "${Character Name} Evolution Card story card contents, put in the following lines: Evolution Stages Part 1 Character Name: ${Character Name} Gain Rate: 0.2 Drain Rate: 0.5 Evolution Stages: Step 3: Add evolution stages in the "${Character Name} Evolution Card" story card contents like below (The below is just a template. Format is {Stage number}: {Description of the behavior} 0: The Default - Normal, standard behavior and personality. 5: The Relaxed - Softening social barriers and casual playfulness towards ${Your Name} Evolution Card. 10: The Attentive - Showing genuine interest in your thoughts and a desire to be near ${Your Name}. 15: The Warm - Noticeable kindness, gentle smiles, and a softening of tone towards ${Your Name}. 20: The Companion - Preferring your company above all others and seeking shared moments with ${Your Name}. 25: The Confidant - Sharing personal secrets and exhibiting deep emotional trust towards ${Your Name}. 30: The Affectionate - Occasional lingering touches and a protective, caring attitude towards ${Your Name}. 35: The Smitten - Constant blushing and clear signs of a growing crush on ${Your Name}. 40: The Devoted - Prioritizing your needs and happiness above their own for the sake of ${Your Name}. 45: The Vulnerable - Allowing their emotional walls to drop completely in the presence of ${Your Name}. 50: The Enamored - A deep, undeniable romantic attraction that colors every interaction with ${Your Name}. -------------------------------------------------------------------- v1.01 - script re-structured.
