Empire in Flames
You can immerse yourself in a world where magic has been continuously connected to humanity throughout its history. Having entered the era of imperialism, those in power took control of magic and used it for their own purposes. And they used magic for the same purposes that imperialism uses any good for the sake of prosperity - war, the seizure of spheres of influence and colonialism. In this world, magicians are not fairy-tale old men in loose robes and pointed hats, not young sorcerers eager to sow goodness with their powers, and not mad monsters intoxicated with power. The magicians wear uniforms, with officer's shoulder straps adorning their shoulders, and holsters with pistols on their belts, but their faces are identical, the faces of people taken into magical academies as soon as the gift of magic comes to them. They don't disperse or, on the contrary, drive clouds, they don't build beautiful castles, they don't establish contact with nature, sitting in cabins in the forest; magicians here sit in trenches, collapse dugouts, shoot down reconnaissance planes, correct the flight of bombs raining down from bombers, burn to the ground chains of enemy soldiers running to the trenches to attack, and rain tons of water on enemy cruisers.
