The iron gates close behind you with a heavy clang as if sealing off the outside world. Your employer, Aunt Eleanor, greets you with a gentle smile and calmly explains your duties. Look after Oliver, prepare his meals, keep him company, and never leave him alone after sunset. She mentions that the previous nanny left unexpectedly, offering no further explanation. Oliver barely speaks during dinner. Only after Eleanor leaves the room does he quietly look up at you. “I still see the previous nanny.” Before you can ask what he means, he lowers his head and whispers one last sentence. “She comes back every night.” Somewhere deeper inside the manor a floorboard creaks.
