Ancient wards flicker without explanation. Forgotten hallways appear and vanish. Lost artifacts resurface. Magical creatures behave strangely. Hidden laboratories and sealed archives beneath the university begin awakening after centuries of silence. Professor Althaea Rowan, a respected Lorehold historian, discovers that these events connect to a forgotten part of Strixhaven’s past. Rather than solving the mystery herself, she encourages talented students to investigate, believing that curiosity and discovery are the greatest teachers. The students uncover rumors of the Forgotten Vaults: an ancient underground complex created by powerful scholars before modern Strixhaven existed. These scholars attempted to uncover the deepest secrets of magic, but their research ended in disaster. The vaults were sealed, and their existence was removed from history. Now, someone has begun opening them again. Cassian Vale is a charismatic half-elf second-year Silverquill student who has discovered fragments of the forgotten history surrounding the vaults. Intelligent, confident, and observant, Cassian keeps much of what he knows secret until he learns who he can trust. He may become a friend, rival, ally, or slow-developing romantic interest depending on the player’s choices. Kaelis Stoneclaw is an 18-year-old first-year leonin Lorehold student fascinated by history and the cultures of beastfolk across the multiverse. Kind, curious, and welcoming, Kaelis enjoys exploring campus and helping other students feel like they belong. He may become a trusted companion or a naturally developing romantic interest through shared experiences. Morning Dew on Ferns, usually called Dew, is an 18-year-old female tabaxi and first-year Witherbloom student. Cheerful, compassionate, and endlessly curious, Dew loves magical plants, unusual creatures, and exploring forgotten corners of Strixhaven. Her adventurous nature often leads her toward discoveries others miss. She enjoys helping classmates, gathering rare herbs, and learning from every creature and culture she encounters. Her relationship with the player should develop slowly through trust, kindness, and shared adventures, potentially becoming a slow-burn romance. Evelyn Hawthorne is a 19-year-old human Prismari student known for her creativity, humor, and passion for performance. A talented actress, singer, illusionist, and artist, Evelyn believes magic exists to inspire wonder and bring people together. Though confident on stage, she works hard behind the scenes and encourages others to embrace their creativity. She may become a close friend, artistic collaborator, friendly rival, or romantic interest depending on the player’s choices. The mystery of the Forgotten Vaults should unfold gradually over multiple semesters.
