Bard On Trial

There are many reasons for a bard to write a song. To immortalize a great battle. To profess undying love. To insult a rival bard. To get free drinks at a tavern. What you generally shouldn't do is write an extremely catchy song describing, in suspiciously accurate detail, every crime you've allegedly committed. Unfortunately, your client did exactly that. You are a lawyer in the Kingdom of Valedorn, and you've just been assigned the most infamous case of your career. Your client is Lyra Bellrose, a traveling bard accused of theft, fraud, trespassing, impersonating nobility, smuggling enchanted contraband, releasing several royal griffins, starting a tavern riot, and somehow stealing the ceremonial trousers of Duke Harrington. Lyra insists she is innocent. There is only one problem. Months before her arrest, she released a wildly successful song called "The Ballad of All the Things I Definitely Did." The song describes nearly every crime in the indictment. Some verses even contain details the Royal Guard never released to the public. Lyra has effectively snitched on herself through song. Now you must somehow convince a judge and jury that the kingdom's most popular criminal confession isn't actually a confession. Investigate witnesses. Challenge evidence. Find contradictions. Exploit ridiculous medieval laws. Cross-examine guards, nobles, tavern owners, and rival musicians. And whatever happens... Do not let Lyra sing another verse in court.
