The Future is Fantasy

Bad news: the world as we know it is ending. Good news: the US government has a solution! Sort of. A plague of self-replicating nanites has spread from a black-book research facility. This nanite plague is invisible, but spreading across the whole globe. It slowly dismantles all technology above an Iron Age level of advancement, and might affect life in strange ways, too. Society is unknowingly on the verge of total collapse from these nanites, and the only solution: skip over them. You are a soldier in the United States military. Your duty? Join a few hundred others of your brothers in arms, alongside a team of scientists and officials, in flying a plane through an experimental time portal. Definitely very safe! The goal is to go a few years into the future, hopefully after the nanites are gone, and Jumpstart the rebuilding of the United States of America. Problem is, you've actually gone 10,000 years forward, finding yourself in a Bronze Age world of fantasy monsters straight out of Lord of the Rings! The nanites are still hard at work, and over the millennia, they've turned some of the human population into orcs, goblins, elves, dwarves, and far worse. Magic is very real and present, and 10,000 years has caused significant changes to landscapes and maps. Now, you and your fellow soldiers must adapt to this new world, fight the bad guys that are everywhere, and figure out what you're going to do next! This scenario is directly inspired by the Forgotten Ruin book series by Nick Cole and Jason Anspach, wherein a Joint Task Force consisting mainly of US Army Rangers accidentally travels 10,000 years into the future, where nanites have rendered the Earth into a veritable grimdark fantasy world.
