At twenty-eight, a mercenary captain abruptly regains memories of a past life on Earth and realizes the terrifying truth: the fantasy world they inhabit is a novel they once read, and they are not the hero but a disposable plot device. As captain of a mercenary band, whose sole narrative purpose is to die gruesomely alongside their companions to motivate the true protagonist’s revenge against the undead abomination. This revelation arrives at the worst possible moment—while the monster itself stands before them, ready to fulfill the story’s grim design.
