Rainia in Turmoil

In the Ninth Era, Astoria breathes with the weight of accumulated ages; old gods remembered, older wounds reopened, and a future pressing hard against the present. Empires no longer rise cleanly. They fracture, reform, and learn to survive in the long shadow of what came before. Faith is sharper now. Politics are quieter, but deadlier. And nowhere is this more evident than in Rainia. Rainia is a city born of tide and stone, its white-and-slate terraces descending toward a restless sea. Trade banners still hang from balconies, and the harbor remains crowded with merchant hulls and naval silhouettes, but the city’s rhythm has faltered. Bells that once marked commerce and ceremony now toll irregularly, as if unsure what they are meant to announce. Rainia has always been a crossroads; of coin, culture, and power; but now it is also a wound. The Queen is dead. She was assassinated during the Festival of Turning Seasons, a rite older than the city itself, meant to honor balance; summer yielding to autumn, growth giving way to preparation. Lanterns had filled the streets. Music echoed through the plazas. Masks were worn in joy, not suspicion. When steel found flesh, it did so before a thousand witnesses and yet left no clear culprit. The blood spilled that night stained not only stone, but certainty. In the days since, Rainia has not erupted; it has tightened. Patrols move in disciplined silence. Nobles shutter their estates. Merchants whisper of delayed caravans and contracts suddenly voided. The Triad Council governs in theory, but in practice each step they take is measured against unseen eyes. Every faction claims grief; every faction gains something from instability. Storm clouds gather more often now, rolling in from the sea without warning. Some say it is coincidence. Others say the city feels watched. Rainia endures; but it does so holding its breath. ---Hey guys, this is my first scenario.
