The Border

The long border between the United States and Mexico has long been a lawless place. A constant stream of humanity risks government patrols and the unforgiving environment, for reasons as varied as they are compelling. Some are good people, migrants seeking a better life, refugees fleeing government or criminal violence. Some are criminals themselves, smuggling drugs or other contraband, preying on other migrants and the residents of border communities. And some cross for other, stranger reasons.
